What I Create for Gender Reveals
Gender reveal balloon decor combines two things: a reveal moment and a styled environment around it. The reveal itself — whether it's a balloon pop, a box opening, or a garland pull — needs to be prepared precisely and kept secret. The surrounding decor — garlands, backdrops, photo areas — needs to frame the moment and make the space photo-ready before and after the reveal.
Most gender reveal parties happen at home or in a backyard, but we also set up at restaurants, parks, rented event spaces, and rooftops across Los Angeles. Gender reveals are one of the fastest-growing categories for our team and across my LA balloon decor work. The installation is designed around the specific space — patio dimensions, wall surfaces, seating layout, and where the reveal moment will happen relative to where guests are standing or seated.
The gender is shared with us privately — by a family member, friend, or the ultrasound envelope — and the reveal element is sealed and prepared privately so parents and guests find out together. Gender reveals range from a single reveal moment to a fully styled party. Here's how most projects break down:
Balloon Pop Reveal
The most popular reveal format. A large reveal balloon — usually black or matched to the party palette — filled with pink or blue confetti and smaller balloons, popped by the parents while guests watch. The reveal balloon is prepared sealed and delivered ready. Often combined with a styled backdrop or garland behind the pop area for the photo moment.
Backdrop + Reveal Combo
A full backdrop installation — garland, signage, and styled elements — with the reveal balloon or box integrated into the design. The backdrop works as both the party's visual centerpiece and the reveal zone. After the pop or opening, the backdrop remains as the photo area for the rest of the event.
Box Reveal
A decorated box filled with pink or blue balloons that float out when the lid is opened. A clean, confetti-free alternative to the pop. The box can be styled to match the party palette and placed within a larger backdrop or garland setup.
He or She / Boy or Girl Theme
A split-color installation — blue on one side, pink on the other — with a neutral center element (gold, white, black) where the reveal happens. Works well as a backdrop and doubles as a "team boy / team girl" photo area before the reveal.
Neutral & Modern Palette
Not every gender reveal uses pink and blue. Some parents prefer a neutral palette — sage, cream, gold, terracotta — with the color reveal contained entirely in the pop or box moment. The surrounding decor stays elegant and gender-neutral, with the surprise limited to the reveal itself. This approach pairs naturally with a matching baby shower design later.
Full Party Styling
Complete decor for the entire gender reveal event — entrance garland, main backdrop with reveal element, dessert table styling, and photo area. Multiple installations designed as one cohesive look. This is the highest-investment tier for gender reveals and works best in larger venues or backyard setups with dedicated zones.
